Description

RockREMOTE Rugged is a waterproof terminal built for edge data transport in remote and industrial installations. Housed in a durable aluminum casing with an IP67 rating, it enables permanent outdoor deployment under extreme weather conditions without an external housing.

Equipped with an internal Linux-based computing module, the device supports containerized hosting for edge applications and local protocol facades like MQTT and FTP. It enables automated WAN failover between LTE cellular networks and the pole-mounted omnidirectional Iridium satellite antenna, maintaining data continuity without manual positioning.

Physical connectivity is managed entirely via ruggedized, sealed M12 and SMA circular connectors. It interfaces directly with standard industrial sensor suites using physical serial, digital GPIO, and LAN interfaces, transmitting telemetry through both TCP/IP midband data or cost effective Iridium Messaging Transport (IMT).

Key Features

  • Dual Mode Connectivity Routing: Blends global Iridium Certus 100 satellite network coverage with local LTE cellular data routing via automatic WAN failover.
  • Rugged Industrial Housing: IP67 rated waterproof aluminum enclosure certified for permanent outdoor installation in harsh environments.
  • Edge Computing Capability: Embedded Linux-based operating system supporting containerized user applications and local protocol facades including MQTT and FTP.
  • Omnidirectional Communication: Pole mounted Certus antenna eliminates tracking alignment requirements for mobile installations or changing views of the sky.
  • Flexible Data Transport: Supports standard TCP/IP data streams or structured Iridium Messaging Transport (IMT) for packet sizes up to 100,000 bytes.
  • Secure Connections: Dedicated hardware security module ensures encrypted data validation over remote networks.
  • Industrial Physical I/O: Complete interface bridging via rugged M12 circular connectors for LAN, serial, and isolated digital GPIO signals.

Cloudloop Platform

RockREMOTE Rugged integrates directly with Ground Control's API-first Cloudloop platform.

Using Cloudloop Device Manager, developer teams can programmatically execute over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, review detailed historical system logs, and run remote terminal diagnostics over either satellite or cellular connections. The Subscription Manager provides unified, fleet-wide visibility to configure data usage parameters, adjust activation states, and monitor real time billing cycles across mixed networks.

Frequently Asked questions

The terminal is packaged with a passive omnidirectional Certus 100 antenna and a 9m RF cable assembly. Because the Iridium constellation operates in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the antenna does not require active pointing or tracking components to establish a secure network lock, provided it has an unshielded view of the sky.

Yes, the on-board Linux environment includes a fully configurable firewall. Technical teams can restrict IP traffic, manage local port routing, and govern protocol communication profiles directly on the edge terminal to mitigate unexpected data overages.

The RockREMOTE Rugged operates on a wide 10-30V DC input range. It features an ultra-low-power sleep mode drawing 0W when triggered via the hardware sleep control pin, making it highly compatible with remote battery and solar-charged power systems.

Yes. The embedded compute core includes a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 8GB Flash running Linux. It supports containerized applications, enabling developers to build, deploy, and execute edge computing applications or data translation scripts locally.

Yes. The terminal provides built-in protocol facades for MQTT and FTP transport. It splits physical signaling via an M12 connector to support 1 x RS232, 1 x RS485/RS422, and isolated digital GPIO lines to interface cleanly with industrial sensor suites and PLCs.
