Description

Iridium 9523N is a compact core transceiver module for product teams building Iridium voice and narrowband data into their own hardware.

It supports Iridium voice, SMS, circuit-switched data, SBD, location-based services, and Push-to-Talk on supported versions. Use it when your product needs more than SBD alone, and your engineering team is ready to design directly around the satellite transceiver.

This is a bare embedded module for PCB-level integration. Your design needs to provide the host processor, SIM interface, power supply, antenna path, enclosure, firmware, and certification route. Control is handled through AT commands over the host interface.

Choose Iridium 9523N when you need multi-service Iridium capability in a compact module. If you only need low data SBD messaging, the 9602N, 9603N, or RockBLOCK devices will usually be the simpler route.

Key Features

  • Global Iridium LEO network access for pole to pole satellite connectivity
  • Multi-service Iridium support, including voice, SMS, circuit-switched data, SBD, location-based services, and Push-to-Talk on supported versions
  • Compact single-board transceiver for direct PCB integration into custom hardware.
  • Larger SBD message support than standard Iridium SBD modules
  • 1616 to 1626.5 MHz RF interface with 50Ω input/output impedance
  • Host control via AT command sequences
  • Certified for key geographic markets, including FCC and CE.

Cloudloop Platform

Iridium 9523N can work with Cloudloop for SBD message routing, airtime management, usage monitoring, and alerts.

Cloudloop Subscription Manager helps manage SBD service status, billing, usage, and notifications across deployed devices. Cloudloop Data can route SBD messages into your own systems using webhooks, APIs, email, MQTT, or cloud integrations.

For multi-service 9523N deployments, including voice, circuit-switched data, or Push-to-Talk, speak to Ground Control so we can confirm the right airtime and service setup.

Frequently Asked questions

Iridium 9523N is the core transceiver module, not a complete developer board.

Your design will need to provide the host PCB, 40-way connector, VBAT and VBOOST power supplies, SIM interface, antenna path, external 50Ω L-band satellite antenna, enclosure, firmware, and certification route.

A valid Iridium SIM card is required if the device utilizes standard voice calling, SMS, circuit-switched telemetry data, or RUDICS connections. If the design relies exclusively on the Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) protocol, a physical SIM is not required; authentication is handled via the device's hardware IMEI code.

The host system communicates with the Iridium 9523N over serial UART through the 40-way inter-PCB connector.

Device control, status checks, diagnostics, and data services are handled using AT commands. Your application firmware is responsible for managing the command flow, service behavior, and integration with the rest of your product.
