Description

The Hughes 9502 is a proven, low power satellite terminal for fixed SCADA, telemetry and M2M applications using the Viasat IoT Pro service.

This listing is for the one piece / integrated antenna version, which combines the modem and antenna in a single rugged IP66 outdoor enclosure. This simplifies installation where there is no requirement to locate the modem and SIM separately inside a building, cabinet or enclosure.

Two variants are available: the standard Hughes 9502 and a C1D2 / ATEX-compliant version for qualifying hazardous-location installations. The C1D2 model is approved for Class I, Division 2, Groups A-D applications.

For installations where the modem and SIM need to be located separately from the outdoor antenna, see the Hughes 9502 Two Piece BGAN M2M Satellite Terminal.

Expected delivery time : 2 to 3 weeks.

Mount assembly not included.

Key Features

  • One piece integrated design: Modem and antenna are housed together in a single IP66-rated outdoor enclosure, simplifying installation at remote sites
  • Standard or hazardous-location option: Available as a standard terminal or C1D2 / ATEX-compliant variant for approved hazardous environments
  • Native IP connectivity: Provides two way standard IP data over Viasat IoT Pro, with speeds up to 464 Kbps and direct 10BaseT Ethernet connectivity to local equipment
  • Ultra-low power consumption: Less than 1 W in idle regional beam state and less than 20 W during transmission, supporting solar and battery-powered installations
  • Automatic connection recovery: Integrated IP Watchdog and auto-context activation can restore connectivity following power loss or disruption without a site visit
  • Remote management: Configuration, diagnostics and terminal control are available through the web interface, SMS and AT commands
  • Multiple network modes: Supports NAT, NAPT, Relay and PPPoE modes for integration with existing IP infrastructure
  • Built for unattended deployment: IP66-rated enclosure and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C (-40°F to +167°F) support permanent outdoor installation in demanding environments.

Frequently Asked questions

Yes. The Hughes 9502 requires a Viasat IoT Pro (BGAN M2M) SIM and airtime subscription to transmit data. Ground Control can supply and provision airtime alongside your terminal, with subscriptions and usage managed through Cloudloop and support available from our in-house teams in the USA and UK.

You can find out more on the Viasat IoT Pro airtime page.

The terminal uses auto-on and auto-context activation to restore internal power states and re-establish the PDP context data session automatically once primary power is reconnected.

Primary IP data connects through an RJ45 Ethernet port. Local configuration is supported via USB Type-B, and external NMEA GNSS positioning data is accepted through an RS-232 DB9 serial port.

Yes. We have more than 20 years of experience supporting BGAN M2M / IoT Pro deployments and can help with replacement terminals, airtime and ongoing fleet management. If you are replacing an existing unit, we can also help confirm whether you need the standard or C1D2 / ATEX variant.

Yes. Ground Control can supply Viasat IoT Pro airtime alongside the Hughes 9502, with subscriptions managed through Cloudloop. Our in-house teams in the USA and UK can also support activation, configuration and connectivity troubleshooting.

The one piece model integrates the transceiver directly behind the antenna in a single outdoor unit. The two piece model separates the transceiver into an indoor unit (IDU) connected to an outdoor antenna (ODU) via a 10-meter RF cable, allowing the SIM card and local data ports to remain inside a secure building or cabinet.
